    Problem: Cannot Hot-Key to TRA-SER for DOS From Estimating System or Time & Material Program.

    Answer: The Link Program for TRA-SER For DOS is a very large program and it requires a lot of memory to execute. Many times the program works fine in DOS but when it is tried in Windows 3.X or Windows 95 it fails.

    Here are some suggestions which work and can be applied to all platforms.
    Edit your CONFIG.SYS File.

    Look for lines similar to the ones listed below. If they do not exist then add them.
    DOS/Windows3.x Computers Windows95 Computers
    DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
    DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE RAM DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE RAM
    DOS=HIGH,UMB DOS=HIGH,UMB,AUTO

    The line which has EMM386.EXE in the line may exist but have NOEMS as an attribute. Remove the NOEMS from the line add RAM if it is not in the line and leave the rest of the line as it was.

    A little explanation is needed here.

    The Link program has the ability to use Expanded Memory if it is available. However, not all environments provide expanded memory automatically, so if it is not present then the program uses conventional memory. Therefore, if you provide the expanded memory as well as provide the upper memory region to load programs in upper memory then everything should work correctly. This problem is especially noticeable on computers which are running the new B version of Windows95 and may even affect the programs ability to interface to TRA-SER for Windows.

    Another note for those of you using TRA-SER for DOS. In the EST directory you will find the file TRFSYS.INI. Edit this file and look for a section named [PRICE SERVICE SYSTEM]. If either of the lines starting with PRICE_LINK do not have a semicolon in front of the line insert the semicolon.

    For those of you that caught the extra parameter in the Windows 95 DOS statement, the auto is an undocumented feature, it will ensure the upper memory is organized very efficiently.
